For more than fifteen years, Casa Mexicana has been many language students and traveler’s first choice when it comes to lodging in Guanajuato. We were among the first to offer a budget hotel with a typically local ambience. Travelers from all over the world have enjoyed this concept. Over the years a number of other places have opened, however, Casa Mexicana is still the most charming place among hotels in Guanajuato.

Within the hotel is a nice family style restaurant, "La Esquina de Cervantes" offering a variety of international cuisines.
As the hotel is situated in the center of the city, it is within ten minutes walking from all the city's greatest attractions. Within the hotel is also one of Guanajuato's best Spanish schools. "Instituto del Sol". Learning Spanish skills to use throughout your stay in Guanajuato is a great way to immerse yourself into the culture. The word spread and most of the world’s famous travel guides such as the Rough Guide to Mexico and the Lonely Planet now recommends our Casa Mexicana.

All the rooms at La Casa Mexicana are private rooms. There are rooms with a private bath rooms and with shared restrooms.

Locatiegegevens
By car: If you arrive in a car, it is easiest to just park any where you can find a spot and ask anyone how to get to Theatro Cervantes. There are basically only 2 main streets that go through the center of the city so finding Landmarks such as el companero y Vips will not be hard.
By Bus: If you come by bus it is easier to just take a taxi from the bus station. Give the cab driver our address and the major land marks and he will know were to go. It shouldn't cost more than 45 pesos (4 US Dollars). Of if you decided to take a bus into the center, just ask for directions to Theatro Cervantes. It isn't far from the Jardin Union.

The hotel is conveniently located just a short walk away from the center of activity. Staff was friendly and tried to respond to our questions and meet our needs.

There was a problem with my booking...TravellersPoint confirmed a private ensuite, but one was not available when I arrived at the hostel. Roberto (manager) was very apologetic but I spent the first night in a tiny bunk room and the closest bathroom two flights downstairs. The second night I had a much better room (pretty, actually), but still no private bath.
(Evidently the current availability information didn't get communicated to TravellersPoint, thus creating the mixup. They need to tighten up this communication gap or deal with very unhappy guests.)
The mixup notwithstanding, the Mexicana is a delightful place, pretty and clean, in a great location and with excellent food and overall service. The place has terrific energy...Roberto couldn't have been more helpful (or apologetic), and Barbara and the rest of the staff bent over backwards to make my stay pleasant in every way possible. Even with the snaffu, it was a great stay in a lovely hostel in a beautiful city. I would definitely go back, to both. I do absolutely recommend the Mexicana, with the earlier proviso.

The hotel was adequate - the service pleasant - the position allowed viewing of interesting with a minimum of problems - a chain restaurant (VIPS) is close at hand - the areais well supplied with taxis and local buses. Tom Morgan.
