The most important lines/routes to know about Budapest's public transport:

The 3 metro lines:

M1 (runs under Andrássy Boulevard)

M2 (east-west line, from Keleti Station to the centre and goes to Buda)

M3 (north-south line, needed for going to the airport)

All the 3 lines crosses at Deák Ferenc Tér station

Important tram lines:

Tram 4/6 - runs frequently along the Grand Circular Road starts in Buda, goes all through the centre of Pest and ends in Buda, in the night it turns into a night bus 906 - which does the same route

Tram 2 - runs along the Danube on the Pest side

Tram 19/41 - runs along the Danube on the Buda side

Tram 47/49 - connects south Buda with Deák Ferenc Tér

Important buses:

Bus 7 runs east-west through Keleti Station towards south Buda

Bus 16 takes you from Deák Ferenc Tér or Moszkva Tér up to the Castle District

Bus 27 takes you from Móricz Zsigmond körtér up to Gellért's Hill

The combination of bus 200E and metro M3 takes you to the city centre from the airport
