Sayta Hostal, Bogota, Colombia

This area is near 4 universities so there is a lot of young people here. Very close to Monserrat (church on a hill) so there is a lot to do and check out. The staff at the hostel is exactly what others have written. It truly is more like staying at someone's home. They take care of you and are interested in getting to know you. Many times, they would accompany me down the street because they wanted to be sure I was safe. The facilities are good, three bath/ shower areas. The TRUTH is that the hotwater is only in the showers, would recommend walking with someone if you are out late (past dusk - only because of people drinking too much on the streets). There are other hostels in this area, the Casa Quevdo is near here but it is right in front of the square and liquor store -- if partying and drinking is your thing, then this might work. There is one other hostel which is near the main road (have not viewed it) as well.

Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this -- they don't speak English, so it's important to know. They are extremely helpful. Great area in the heart of Columbia.

Sayta was divine, the location and neighbourhood spectacular. I found Sayta through google and read a few reviews about it on tripadvisor what a find.
As a solo female traveler safety comes first, and this is exactly what I found in Sayta. Furthermore the place was homey and had everything and more what I wished for. The bed was great new and firm, the bathrooms had endless hot water and were super clean. In the morning I always had a fresh nicely brewed cup of coffee.

La Candelaria is a nice old colonial city within the enormous city of Bogota, I found it to be safe and hilly, yet ful of great museum and nice restaurants.

Once I walked into Sayta I felt at home, therefore made friends with John and his mum. I did a bit of shopping and they offered to store my purchases so I could travel light thank god for that. When I was on the road I changed my ticket to stay a week longer, but forgot to let them know about it, they emailed me to see if I was ok. My mum was also able to call them and they would pass me the message once I got in, and if I was around they had no problem passing me the phone.

On my last day in Bogota I slipped and fell and Senora Sanchez nursed me like any good old mother would do, with care, love and attention, mind you this is not part of her job, she also made me a meal.

All in all dont be seduced by this mainsteam places stay at a real place that is a home away from home Sayta is the only way.
