one things which I disappointed that is the owner told me to change the light in the toilet at the first night when I arrived there. time passed by nothing act about it at all. except the front service who try to please me by adjusted it in the second night. anyway til I checked out, never the owner anymore (only in the first night for keep a bill payment).

the room for private too small, about 2*2.5 m. from my estimate, that suitable for keeping and sleeping condition.

ps. the refrigerator look dirty in the freeze channel. others facilities are ok.

Dit is een Vertrouwde Recensie. Waarom?

I have been travelling for 2 years and never before have I recieved such disgusting treatment. I quite honestly would have felt better if I had been spat on!! I am still fuming to this day. After booking on travellers point for this guesthouse due to what seemed Like wonderful reviews I paid my deposit. 2 days later we left china on a night train to arrive in hong kong in the morning. After entering this "place" I was approached briskly by a stubborn woman who quite simple raised her hand in my face and said "full" walking off after this. In fact leaving the new China entirely! I had to get the poor porter to call her mobile to come back up. She never asked my name for booking or offered any explaination of the situation. Eventually after denying any knowlege of my booking, travellers point or hostel world she said she emailed cancellation of booking ( which turned out to be at 2am the day of arrival in a short hand email). They obviously did have knowlege of the booking or they wouldn't have my email. I demanded a refund of my deposit which was refused as "we don't have your money".
We were then offered a single small bedded windowless room (we are a couple) no bathroom for the same price. We swiftly left the premisis as I was fit to burst. It's not so much the situation, I could have handled very easily if I was spoken to like a person and a customer not some thing!! But this truly left us in a very bad position in hong kong at the weekend when accomadation is scarce are VERY expensive. It took us until 7 pm that night with lugging all our luggage around to find a room for the night. I actually thought we may have to sleep on the streets! At least we could have been informed at the time of booking and not in the middle of the damn night. I hope karma does it's favors to this rude, ignorant woman!

well, being that it is Chung King Mansion, one must think about if one can review it according to the same standards as anyplace. to be honest, you cannot. but if it helps others with their future trips, then fine. Chungking and Mirador are not standard accommodations by any means. they are not even close to International Youth Hostels, but unfortunately, all of those located in HK are considerable distance away and none in Kowloon, which must be intentional. though it is nice to venture into an experience like nothing in the West, largely Indians, Pakistanis and Indonesian immigrants trying to make it in HK all concentrated in the small, budget electronics shops in the first floors, these are structures that should be demolished soon. given the incredible beauty, design and development one will encounter everywhere in HK, new buildings should be erected soon, to eradicate this eyesore from the HK scene. these buildings are incredible fire traps.

for most males, the bed will be too small. they gave me one of their smallest units, and so the space that i had to work around, with my luggage or anything else, was only as much as the length of of the door, opening into a doorway. within 3 feet of the threshold is the bed, and the bathroom door is within that 3 ft distance to your left. the place is kept clean and the employees, who are migrants from Africa, are usually around, and sleep on a mattress next to their desk at night. they are coached well by their Chinese female boss, and thus, attend to you pretty quickly, and dont do anything suspicious. AC worked, TV got channels, and toilet and shower worked fine. they also washed my clothes for me, but i had to pay 20HKd, no problem. they are generally friendly, and much to my surprise, a Chinese family of 3 stayed there while i did, as well as a pair of Chinese girls in their 20's.

but despite all of the possible benefits, this area is really like a 3rd world experience and does not reflect well upon HK. as for the buildings, they are so old, and messy that it becomes amazing that any city government would allow them. i know that in the USA, they would have been condemned and replaced by structurally safe, and cleaner buildings long ago. i sincerely hope that HK will use just some of their huge fortune, which is so apparent when visiting HK, to replace these buildings with totally new structures there, whether residential or not. but they do need some: 1. international youth hostels and 2. reasonable or medium priced motels/hotels in the area, like Jinjiang, Motel 168, or Motel 6. they need these desperately in downtown HK. disaster is waiting.

Considering it is a guest house, or hostel, and it is in Hong Kong, it is very acceptable for its standards, like cleanliness, facilities and service. Location is great - right in the middle of all the happenings!!! Lots of travellers and mixed cultures around. Transportation to anywhere from there is easily accessible.

The room is very small, there are the bed and a bedside stand, also a box side toilet with shower. Barely any spare room for a chair. Luggages are put underneath the bed. There are air conditioning, a small TV, a wall fixed fan, bath towels and free Wi-fi provided. Room fittings are old and everything is stripped down to its minimal and basic. Hey, it is Hong Kong!!!

There are hot drinking water boiler, fringe, hair dryer and cloth hangers provided available from the tiny front reception; portable water are free for your taking; washing and ironing facilities are available at a small cost. No cooking allowed.

It is rather pricey, particularly when you are travelling on your own and need to check in a single ensuite. Price will look more reasonable if you are to travel with 3 others. It is quite safe and the hostel keeper is very helpful - ask anything, she will always try to help. The helper speaks good English and Cantonese, she can also manage Mandrin a bit as well - better than me anyway.

So, overall, it is very good for budget travel. Just dont expect 5-stars facilities when you are paying the price of a hostel, and dont forget it is in Hong Kong - everything are economised!!!

I would recommend it to any budget travellers, or even 'simple' business people. The owners, Mr Peter Lau, his wife and his son Stephen, are very reasonable, and please call first before making any booking online, you may got a deal!!! When you are arriving the hostel, just make sure you dont follow anyone, claiming to be working for Peter. They are really not and are taking you to their own hostels in the same block. They may offer you a cheaper price, but there can be 'troubles' after. So it is all up to you!!!

Have a nice stay in Hong Kong!!!

The best thing about this place is the location - apart from the romance of the location (as seen in the film Chungking Express - and yes, it is JUST like that) - you'll be right in the centre of downtown Kowloon, near the shops and restaurants of Nathan Road and a few minutes' walk from the star ferry terminal to Hong Kong island. Lots of 24 hour shops nearby, plus a couple of night markets, and right next to an MTR station.

The actual hotel is fine, rooms are small - but then all rooms in Hong Kong are small - and quite clean. There's a lift in the building, and wireless internet in every room, and the owner (Peter) is very accommodating and helpful.

Getting to the place can be a bit alarming - as you can probably guess from the warnings on the website about staff from other hotels hassling you - but once you're used to it, it just seems like part of the character of the building.

Overall this place is the opposite of luxurious, but for a basic Hong Kong experience I don't think you could get better value for money - and it's safe, clean, and convenient. Definitely recommended for travellers on a budget.

[Oh, and top tip for your stay in Hong Kong: all the museums are free on Wednesdays]
