The village of Salakos , is built at the foot of Mt Prophetes Elias at an altitude of 290 meters and it is located 39 km far from the city of Rhodes . It occupies an area of 47.400 acres and is inhabited by 581 people

Both the well – known spring “Nymph”, located in this area, and the valley constitute a very important living – area for a particular species of butterfly “Kallimorpha” the same species we can find at the Valley of butterflies in the village of Theologos . The village was named after a landowner “Salakos” who was a sovereign in this area. In this village one can see almost everywhere foundations, Greek tombs and Byzantine churches – all in ruins mainly as a cause of the passing of time.Traditional guest house “Nymph” one of the older lodgings of Rhodes .

Built in 1926 characterized from the Archaeological Service and the GREEK TOURISTIC ORGANISATION as preservable work of art.It has 4 double or treble rooms with bathroom.It is found in their roots of mountain of Prophet Ilia in the Salakos of Rhodes one of greenest regions of island near in the source Nymph.

The Salakos uphold the picturesque village character with the square and the habits of resident population.

It is the ideal place for jauntiness and relaxation

We stayed at this guest-house only three days, but regretted not having chosen it for our entire stay in Rhodes.
The "Nymbh" is located in a little village, Salakos, at the foot the Mount Profytis Elias, far from the "madding crowd" of mass tourism: not exactly "pictoresque", but real life, children playing, a little emporium, a square with tavernas with locals eating, a touch of rural and bucolic.
Kamiros, the Kritinia castle and the west coast are near, and the inner road Salakos-Kolymbia to reach the east coast (and Agathi beach, Linods etc.) is enchanting.
The guest-house itself is a nice italian house of about the 20's, a bit "vieillote", but we have been conquered by the silence, the white cotton bedspreads, the plentiful and genuine breakfast served at the time you choose ( fresh eggs, cakes, fruit and fruit juices, jams, etc., ), but, most of all, by the helpfullness of the staff, and of the nice owner, Apostolos.
Genuine, unaffected kindness.
So we advise this place for those who look for a more authentic and relaxing kind of vacation, and definitely unexpensive.
