The accomodation is not more stat of the art. The bath / shower equipment is poor.
In total the hotel is not more competitive.
Next time I will search for alternatives.

The best aspect of this hotel is its ideal position within an easy walk to all attractions. It's located around 5 mins walk straight ahead from the train stn on Laurin st (on the right with the entrance in a small alcove off the st -look for the sign). It is more of a budget style/pensione and as such is quite simple, but as with nearly all accom in Bolzano, it doesn't come at a budget price.
I had a rm at the back of the hotel which was very small, but had a great little balcony with nice view to the mtns (a number of rms have this). These rms don't experience the noise problems from the bar near the front of the hotel. The bathroom was ok, but the water flowed at a trickle and there were problems with the hot water, resulting in no hot water on one morning (the manager kindly gave a discount for this). The staff were fine. The b'fst was good, held in a nice cafe around the corner.
Overall, a place suitable for single travelers on a budget.

There was no heating in the room, staff were not helpful at all.

It was a nice place and offered a very nice breakfast in the restaurant downstairs. We had trouble finding the place. (The street address was more useful than the directions.)
The entrance is tucked inside the alleyway next to the restaurant.
Our only complaint was that the bar below got noisy one night and people were yelling below our window. Then delivery trucks made a racket in the early morning. Aside from that, the accommodations were clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly.

The location of Cappello di Ferro was great; very close to the train station and bus station. The room was mediocre--not at all like the photos on the website. The walls were very thin and you can hear everything that was going on in the rooms nearby. People in other rooms opened their windows and smoked during the night--and the smoke came into my room, which made it uncomfortable. The rooms had no phone, no information about the hotel or services available. Members of the staff seemed to not be on the same page about check-in and check-out times. Breakfast was a typical Italian breakfast (pastries, coffee, juice, cold cuts, etc...but no eggs or the like...)

If you are looking for a place to crash for a night or two, don't care too much, this is a relatively reasonable place to stay. It is more like a youth hostel or a low-end motel (in the USA) than a hotel.

Nice hotel in a perfect location.
The rooms do not really look like on the pictures, but the price is okay for what you get.

Parking is not free, 10 € per day in a garage 5 min from the hotel.

No internet acces, but there is an internet cafe very close.
