irene.thu It has a great view which makes up for other less satisfactory things.....I booked for a single private ensuite and was surprised to be given a room with 4 beds. I was told by the reception on that day that if I wanted to have a single bed I would get no view but I distinctly remembered that for 550 NOK I could get a single room private ensuite with a view. I did not want to make waves and just let it go. For a private room with no view the price was less. I was very surprised and mystified when Reception told me that single rooms were only for their workers. I asked him to show me the single room and he took me to see a room that is in another building and clearly in a very messy area and the single room was shocking.........below standard..............I doubt very much if this room is the real single room ensuite. The webiste says that we can call and someone will give us a free pick up. The "driver" was not available and so the reception guy did walk down to give me a hand with my luggage. I guess that was nice of him. Reception on that day, 19th July, Tuesday, told me I could get a ride down to the pier but the next day I found out that no such thing had been arranged. However, the manager gave me a ride to the ferry boat area when he was alerted by another staff on duty that morning and he was very nice and so that made up for the reception's rather arrogant attitude towards me the day before. We were told that Breakfast starts at 7.00 am but on that very day, the breakfast started late for some reason. However, the staff were very obliging. Ended up I didn't have time to take my breakfast when the manager turned up and we had to leave if I wanted to take the 8.00 am boat to Geiranger. Websites can be very misleading. I expect hotels and hostels to keep to what they promise on line. I would not have taken this hostel if I knew it would be so difficult for the single female with luggage to walk from the city center uphill. It was the "free" ride promised on the website that persuaded me to book with this hostel. It is, after all, 700 Km from the city center.
