Are you searching for a great place to stay in Shanghai, the pearl of the orient, the Paris of the east, city of dreams and adventure? Then look no further than Shanghai City Central Youth Hostel!
Although our hostel is not located directly in the historical (busy, noisy and crowded!) centre of Shanghai, we are conveniently located right next to the Caoyang Road metro station, which provides excellent access to navigate the city very easily and also means you can avoid the tourist traps and crowds whilst still relaxing in style. We're actually called City Central because the hostel is one branch of a chain of hostels in a large group, so please don't take the wrong impression by our name :)
We have a variety of comfortable, clean rooms including ensuites, doubles, singles, and 4/6 bed dormitories, with air conditioning in each of the 150 rooms, as well as a large bar where you can chill-out, make friends, watch DVD movies, play pool, play-station, listen to the jukebox, have a karaoke party, and, of course, drink! :)
We pride ourselves with having excellent modern facilities for every guest�s taste and our services are of a impressively high standard, so within a very short period we have become widely regarded as one of the best hostels in Shanghai and have gained an excellent reputation from our guests from all over the world � as you can see from our reviews, we�re hard to beat when it comes to quality establishments that really know how to cater to travellers, back-packers, tourists, adventurers, family and group parties.
Plus, we have the room to ensure that your stay won�t feel cramped, noisy or uncomfortable. After a hard day�s sightsee-ing we can welcome you back to relax, meet our friendly English-speaking staff, and fully enjoy Shanghai at its best. Plus, what better way to start the new day than with a FREE buffet breakfast?!
(A la carte breakfast is provided from 7:30am to 12:00 noon, while there is a free buffet breakfast from 7:30am to 9:30am)
Location Information:
We are conveniently located right next to the Caoyang Road metro station, which provides excellent access to navigate the city very easily. The subway is open from 5:35am until 22:43pm, so if late at night you will have to take a taxi (around 3 euros)
Near the hostel, there is a 24-hour supermarket,bar, coffee lounge, ATM, IC/IP phones. There is also a local KFC, McDonalds, Carrefour, banks and a post office.
What to see and do:
We are sure that you will find that our rooms� size and standard is more than ample for the price. Enter via the large, clean lobby and playing inviting music, and note that our bar / dining rooms are well presented. Although we are not located in a tourist area, the metro is very close and cheap, thus you can avoid the tourist traps and crowds.

Hands down one of the best places I have stayed at. Clean, planned, properly managed, value for money!! The bar is good and so is the menu with a lot of options for vegetarians. The restaurant and bar could do with more staff, specially on busy nights. But that is nothing to complain about. Easily accessible. Highly recommended!! The best in Shanghai.

good place to stay, clean, spacious, helpful etc.. half price drink token on arrival, free breakfast, food and bar prices reasonable. close to the metro which is handy as ur a little out of town but its only 30-40 rmb to pretty much everywhere! overall very pleased with our stay.

Great hostel overall - large communal areas with bar, food, pool table etc. Close to underground transport connections.
On the negative side - our room smelt as a result of previous guests smoking and the decor was a little tired.
I was very satisfied staying in this youth hostel, probably the biggest one I've ever been to. Loved the cereals for breakfast, the room was nice, air con was working well, bathrooms were clean, whatever I needed was available there. Location may not be the best, but it's very close to the subway station which I used most of the time to go anywhere.

Hostel is very easy to find but not quite near to the People's Square. Friendly and helpful staff, ready to guide you on the directions to places of interest. Hostel is very clean and the facilities are good (remember to bring your own small locker as they do not provide/rent). Great breakfast too! I love the cereals! Please continue to keep up and provide excellent service to future travellers!
