From the Airport:
Taxi: Depending on the time and the driver, it should cost between 70-100 Reais.
Directions for the taxi driver: ‘A Rua Emilio Berla e uma pequena rua que e continuacao da Rua Barao de Ipanema em Copacabana, nos estamos ubicados na ultima casa no topo da ladeira, numero 180, Emilio Berla.’
BUS: Take the REAL bus to Copacabana for 7 Reais. Turn right past the waiting taxis and look out for the airport bus stop. (See bus station info for instructions on where to get off the bus). The bus takes a long time! Up to 3-4 times as long as a taxi.
From the Bus Station:
Taxi: Take a radio taxi from just outside the bus station. You pay a fixed fee at the counter. It will cost about 30 Reais to get you here.
Directions for the driver: see airport taxi driver directions.
BUS: Take the real bus that goes to Copacabana from in front of the bus station for 4 Reais. They run every 15 minutes and will stop on the main beach road (Rua Avenida Atlantica in Copacabana). Ask the driver to stop at the ´Rua Barao de Ipanema´. Walk straight up Rua Barao de Ipanema away from the beach. Our street, Emilio Berla is the small street that runs up the hill at the end of Rua Baroa de Ipanema. We are the last house on the right, at the top, 180 Emilio Berla.

RSSAbsolute shocker. This place is TERRIBLE. Expensive and awful value. Recommend you stay anywhere else. The location is not great, up a MASSIVE hill. The facilities are minimal at best. But the kicker is the owner. A rude, obnoxious Aussie woman. Only interested in taking your money and once that happens, expect no more respect or niceties. In fact, we suspect she has dodgy dealings going on there. She kicked me out at 0830 the morning we were due to check out because the police were coming over and she didn't want me there. Very suspect. Suggest you can find better value, with better facilities, better staff, and feel safer almost ANYWHERE else in Rio.

I can only review Service and Location. Unfortunately, upon arrival in Rio de Janeiro, none of my bank or credit cards were working.
I was able to contact Alegra who runs Casa Cario Ka. Alegra offered to pay the taxi upon arrival at her place and invited me to stay until I resolved the issues with my cards. I was very fortunate to meet some locals who invited me to stay with them, so I never made it to Casa Cario KA. Once situated in Rio, I visited the Casa Cario Ka address and found it to be a very nice and secure area, walking distance to the beach, and conveniently located in an active part of Copacaban.
In short, I thought I'd at least review Casa Cario Ka based on Alegra's excellent guest services and great location.

Alegra, the owner, is a wonderful and very understanding woman. She was very nice to us during our stay and very helpful. I couldn't have asked for a better hostel owner.
However, the overall quality of the hostel isn't really the best out there. This hostel is relatively new and there are a lots of things that needed to be adjusted. Its location relative to the city (Rio) and the beach is wonderful, but it is on top of a very steep hill, so the even though the walk is short, it could be very tiring!
In addition, I believe that if there were more staff in the hostel, most of the other low rating could be fixed.
