The house itself is a huge colonial mansion, guarded by two magnificentbi-centenarian mango trees. Hence the name, Casa MangoMango! Resplendent with original features, the house has been restored and decorated in funky, upbeat designs to cater for every taste. And outside, in the lovely, tropical gardens, there’s a cool pool too!
Built by Julia Lopes, a Brazilian novelist, journalist, playwright, and lecturer, the house hosted many a sarau for the literati of the early 20th century. Today we try to keep her spirit alive by inviting local artists to display their work and employing local musicians on our multi-lingual staff.
Our musical and artisitic events may well be some of your best holiday memories in Brazil.

Located relatively lower part of Santa Teresa, rather safe. Nice breakfast, clean room. And a mango tree at the entrance

This place is magic! Really loved our stay there, would recommend it to anyone. Lovely surroundings, creative and comfortable decor. Nice pool, good breakfast. Fantastic hot showers! We stay in the Colonial room which is really impressive (its three rooms really) and the Dona Maria, a smaller simpler room, but really cute.
The house sits on a bit of a hill, which gives great views but is a bit of a hike coming home by foot (it really does feel like coming home!). The famous bondinho passes in front of the house though as do buses. We just used taxis which reception requests for you. We felt very safe there.
Other guests were quiet and respectful, people with children and single travellers.
