Surfcity Guest House, Unawatuna, Sri Lanka

SurfCity is a Tourist Board approved guesthouse right on the beach in Unawatuna Bay, Sri Lanka with a unique Internet Cafe, which was opened on November 18th in 2000. A surfing spot with lots more to see and do.

SurfCity has twelve spacious double rooms with attached bathroom and restaurant on the beach. Unawatuna is a popular tourist destination for backpackers, who enjoy the beautiful beach. It has a local community with approx. 2.000 inhabitants, who live from tourism, crafts, guest houses, restaurants, jewellery, diving etc. For those who yet to visit, Unawatuna is not only a beach resort, it is a part of a legend. First the famous epic Ramayanaya explain the relation to Unawatuna, by describing it as " a rock fell from the sky". And then in the recent history - at the time of colonial regime from 16 century BC, Unawatuna considered as a supply point for naval vessels and been a prestigious location for "official residents". Once the Discovery magazine spotted this beach as one of the 10 top beaches in the world, just because of its diversities in the nature.

Surf commitment. During the post Tsunami village recovery, Surf became the main coordinating centre for the Unawatuna Tourism Development Society (UTDS), which is the most efficient community based organization in the area.

This has been done because of Surf´s exclusive communication facilities. During the whole processes of Post Tsunami relief by UTDS, Surf had contributed immensely and will continue with a strong further commitment (see dutchconnect.org).

The guest house is on the beach between Galle and Matara. You can get a bus direct to Unawatana so a taxi from the airport is best if you have much luggage, If you are traveling light you can take the bus or train to Galle. For the bus you need to get to Colombo-Petta and catch the bus to Galle.

Although the public transport is mostly packed the train journey shows you much of the coastline.
