We\'re in the heart of lively, upscale San Pedro, only 400 meters from the University of Costa Rica and the student nightlife of Calle de la Amargura. Our newly renovated hostel is 10 minutes by bus from downtown San Jose and walking distance from San Pedro Mall, three supermarkets as well as many restaurants and bars.
Our 14 rooms are a mix of dormitories and private rooms with WiFi all throughout the hostel. We have two full kitchens with plenty of fridge space for your food. If you do not like to cook there is also front door delivery service from nearby restaurants. You can hang out with fellow travelers in the interior courtyard, watch students pass by on the outside terrace or if you just want to chill enjoy one of our two TV rooms. No laptop? No problem. We also have three Internet connected PCs so you can upload all of your photos from the beach.
San Pedro is a safe, stylish neighborhood in San Jose so we enjoy taking our guests out for movie nights, skating, city walks and pub crawls on Calle de la Amargura. The University District is close enough to ensure there are always activities going on but with the hostel being a few blocks from the main highway you can also get a quiet night\'s rest.

The hostel is a great place to take a rest near the downtown in Costa Rica. Near the hostel there are a lot of ways to move to the most interest places in Costa Rica.
If you wanna meet many people of different countries of the world, this hostel is a excellent idea for that.
And it's a cheap and secure place.
Staying at Castle Tam was a joy! The location is in a great district, very close to bus stations grocery stores, the mall, banks and bars! My boyfriend and I took a bus to Cartago for dental work daily for less than a dollar and the bus ride was around 30 minutes. Bus rides to San Jose the capital are less than 50 cents and the bus ride is less than 15mins from the bus stop nearest to Castle Tam. Castle Tam host an array of unique long term guest and Jesse( my boyfriend) and I really enjoyed hanging out and getting to know them in the Castle Tam bar. The Castle Tam bar is conveniently located and the prices are best in San Pedro, plus you can't find a better bar keep in 100 miles radius. When you visit the bar don't forget to ask for a Gatorade, just a little drink recipe I left behind. We also enjoyed the weekly watching of Community and The Office in the bar and American football on the weekends. Jon the owner is super helpful, even pointing us in the right direction for other hostel around the country that we could visit while on our 2 week stay in the country. This was my first experience in staying in a hostel and I can say I was happily surprise. The house is clean and everyone is so helpful in getting you anything you might need. If I had one complaint it'd just be some of the surrounding neighbors car alarms that seemed to be super sensitive, but I had ear plugs and that solved that problem. Jon also sells ear plugs in the Castle Tam store. I must say we really felt we were staying amongst friends. I also can not say thank you enough to Jon and the Castle Tam staff for not only making our stay very enjoyable but also mailing our laptop back to us when we accidentally left it behind. I can't imagine many people would take the trouble Jon did to get it back to us and as quickly as it did get to us( less than 2 weeks). Jesse and I will be returning to Castle Tam hopefully in the near future as we had the most wonderful time.

John, the owner, was more than helpful with everything, and a great host. Price and location were great, and the hostel was surprisingly quiet at night. My only real complaint about the place was much of it seemed unfinished, or under construction. Lots of half finished areas in the place. That, to me, seems like a temporary condition which will only improve over time. Not anything that would keep me from staying there, if I'm ever in San Jose again. The helpful and friendly host and staff more than made up for the work in progress. Overall, a strong recommendation.
