Welcome To The House Of The She Pine Tree!
A Museum House in a XIX Century Sintra Chalet.
The House of the She Pine Tree was built at the end of the XIX Century for a local farmers family, and expanded in the 30s, when it was redesigned to its Sintra Chalet looks.
It sits on the highground edge of the time forgotten villages of Sabugo and Vale de Lobo, in the county of the historic town of sintra (a Unesco World Heritage Site). The village rolls down the last west facing slope where the hills of Carregueira and Olela merge, with breathtaking views of the mountain of Sintra and its valley, with fabulous unlimited 270 degrees sunsets panoramas!
The sea from Guincho to Ericeira lies just behind the horizon.
The house was bought in the early sixties by the journalist, war reporter, radio and tv producer and speaker, painter, artist, award-wining novelist, theater and childrens stories writer, publicist, poet, antiquarian, art collector Olavo d Eca Leal (Vd. Bio).
In order to sustain its maintenance and support the conservation of the house and its collection, the house is operating as an inn/bed & breakfast, a non-profit charity.
About 300 metres away down the hill, but also enjoying amazing views of Sintra is our sister property: The Chapel House. Here you can enjoy total privacy by renting the Chapel House Apartment where you have access to a private parking and swimming pool.

We loved our stay at the House of the She Pine Tree. We met a wonderful older lady who was the grandmother of the owner who had such a lovely disposition. The staff were well informed about the painter and his history which made the stay even more enjoyable. The food was excellent and the other guests were very enjoyable. Only one slight problem which this House could not control, the barking dogs in the Town Sabugo drove us crazy - all night long, never stopped. Great place to stay and highly recommended.

On arriving after a hot bike ride we were greeted to a warm welcome and cold drinks. I enjoyed everything about our stay there, it is much more than just a hostel...

What an amazing place! The house is stunning and filled with beautiful things. The staff were warm, welcoming and friendly and couldn't do enough to help. The only downside is that it is a bit of a journey to Sintra so a car is helpful - but there is a bus that goes from about 100m away. Cannot recommend it enough!

What a wonderful place, The artist Olavo D'eca Leal lived here and many of his sketches/paintings adorn most rooms. Beautiful views of Sintra mountain in the distance and breathtaking views of the valley and fields below the house. Our hosts (who did not speak a word of English) looked after us very well the home cooking was superb and we managed to converse better after a few glasses of wine supplied with dinner. Lovely place lovley hosts, would definately go back there again. A little difficult to find and would recommend a Tom Tom Sat Nav as we used.

We had a most enjoyable stay with this very hospitable family and attended a cookery afternoon which was great fun. We were made very welcome and would recommend this house.

A great place to stay. The house is amazing, the family make you feel so welcome. If you like art and antiques it is a must. The food was excellent both for value and quality. A wonderful experience, will definately return. Nadia Moxon

Expectations were high, and we were not disappointed! A beautiful place, full of magic, and a wonderful reception. You might have some difficulties to find the house at the first time, but once you're in there, you'll feel at home in a minute, and then just don't want to leave! People are incredibly nice and friendly, making you feel comfortable, and if you stay for dinner, you will sure have a surprisingly good experience, meeting other people or simply having a nice meal for two at the balcony! We miss it already...
