Guesthouse Chlumova, Прага, Чешская Республика

The owners are a lovely couple, that's true, but they should make sure that their place is comfortable for eveybody. We stayed there for four days without problems - except for the smelly worn-out pillows. However, the last night was almost unbearable. I think we were the only short term tennants in the house, the rest was a group of grown-up foreign men who we had hardly met during our stay. We'd noticed that they were rather careless and dirty, judging by the mess they made of common spaces and stuff after using them. But that wasn't much of a problem for us, to be true. However, the evening before leaving the city, we arrived there at about midnight. They were having a sort of party in the kitchen - five men in their forties getting drunk in a kitchen, while listening to arab music played at ear splitting volume, is not my idea of a party, but I'm not here to judge. Anyway, as we were entering our room, one of them approached us and asked if the noise was any problem for us. I told him we had to wake up at 7, but, as I didn't want to ruin their evening, just asked them to turn down the volume and close the kitchen door. They closed the door but, instead of turning the music down, they turned it up and started to yell. About 45 minutes of unbearable noise, yelling, and door slamming, I put my trousers on and went out to complain. When I did that, they seemed to agree and kept quieter for 2 minutes: as soon as I had slipped into my bed, the music was blasting out once more. I could not stand that, went back to the kitchen and started a more serious complain. They were so pissed off by then that they only mumbled something when they saw me complain in anger. It was later than 2 am. and I didn't want to go upstairs and wake the guesthouse owners - they have little children and I thought it wouldn't be a good idea to scare the kids by waking them up that late at night. When I went back to bed, they still went on with their "party" for a while, but the noise started to fade away (very slowly, though). Unfortunately, I couldn't get to sleep until 4, so I only got three hours sleep that night.
Even though it was not their fault, the owners shouldn't allow this to happen in their guesthouse under any circumstance. I had payed for that room, and all I wanted to do was sleep, but they just didn't let me.
This incident brought a bitter end to our happy city break.
