I booked the single room (not sure if there is only 1) but it was tiny, which was fine. It had no window. It might not have been so bad except that there is a large dormer window which is the only source of air cirulation. The weather has been hot so the room was hot (and I get cold easily), but since you can´t open the window to cool it off at night, you leave the dormer window open. The noise level was awful (and I am a city person and live on a busy street at home). I could hear everything in the lobby as if my tiny bed was right there. I heard every car drive by, plus the other guests.

When I first arrived, they I asked if I could initially just pay the 1st night since I was concerned since the area looked very seedy - tons of grafitti and lots of abandoned buildings. I am a solo female, so I need to be careful. They claimed it was the "rich neighborhood". (Sadly after walking around, I realized most of Porto is a grafitti covered dumpy town.) The guy was angry since I guess he thought I was someone else who´d called earlier to shorten their stay, and he thought that was me. He got much nicer after I made it clear that it was not me, but that put me off a bit. Wasn´t sure if he was just trying to make up for his nastiness or if he is normally helpful. The other people who worked there were all very nice and helpful and all spoke good English. The place is fairly clean, but a bit of a dump, but a good value to have an ensuite single room for 25Euros. It is a little further from the main area, but still walkable.

BTW, the directions from the train (get off the train and walk 3 minutes) are about as helpful as telling me to walk blindfolded. It took 3 locals to help me find the place. Try to map it out and print (I did not have access to a printer in time.) Also, the sign says their old name which is Marfim, with a little paper AC Guesthouse sign taped to the door....

a very warm welcome from the friendly staff. Staff can speak English.Being provided with all necessary info regarding Porto. there is a chance for improvement for toilets. The owner was really nice. Allow us to keep our luggage after check out because our return flight was late at night. Overall brilliant stay. Would definitely recommend to others.

5 stars all around. The gentleman who runs the guesthouse speaks english exceptionally well and was an awesome host. Alberto was helpful, always sweet, and full of tips and information. The bathroom and room were both spotless, the sheets smelled freshly washed, and it was very in a very quiet location but also near the city center. Overall it was a great value for the price, and I plan on returning!
