Welcome to Sofytel Hostel.Is a new hostel built in September 2011. The hostel offers cheap accommodation in the centre of Milan.

Sofytel is a warm and friendly hostel that welcomes travellers from all over the world.

Guests can relax in our communal room ; complete with comfy sofas, cable/satellite TV and book, Wi-Fi, internet point and bar available 24h.

Please note: If you choose a rate down 15€ by night the extra cost is the following:

1. Linen 3.00€ by day/person (obligatory)

2. Towel 1.00€ day/person

3. Internet 2.00€ by day/person

4. Breakfast 2.00€ by day/person

From Linate airport:

Take bus n. 73 and get off after 15 minutes at Corso XXII marzo, at the stop Santa Maria del Suffragio.The Hostel is at 100 meters: head that way, keeping right and turn at the first right, Via Pietro Calvi N.18.

From Malpensa airport:

Take the Malpensa Express train and get off at the Cadorna station. From here (piazzale Cadorna) take tram N. 27 in the direction of Viale Ungheria and get off after 15 minutes at Corso XXII marzo, at the stop Santa Maria del Suffragio.The Hostel is at 100 meters: head that way, keeping right and turn at the first right, Via Pietro Calvi N.18.

By Train:

From piazza Duca d'Aosta, in front of the Central station of Milan, take bus 60 in the direction of San Babila and get off after 15 minutes at Corso XXII marzo, at the stop Santa Maria del Suffragio.The Hostel is at 100 meters: head that way, keeping right and turn at the first right, Via Pietro Calvi N.18.

By car

From the highways, from the Milan barrier, enter the Tangenziale Est and follow the signs for the airport Milan Linate. Take the exit for viale Forlanini and continue straight ahead in the direction of the central city. Go along Viale Corsica then go all most all the way along Corso XXII marzo. You will pass piazza Santa Maria del Suffragio, continue approximately 200 meters, and turn on the right in via Cellini. At the end of the road, turn right on via Marcona and after approximately 150 meters again on the right in via Pietro Calvi. N.18

I know it's a hostel but this was run more like it was a couple of people letting out some spare rooms. When I arrived on the street I was looking for a sign of some sort. It's actually a Ballet School (Scuola) sign at the gate (and also on the door of the hostel). It is also called Sofytel on the doorbell and not Hostel Sofia and there was a street market that day so it all conspired to make the place hard to find.

Once inside (no lift, narrow staircase), the door opened on a spartan 'living room' with cigarette butts in beer bottles, a couple of pottery ashtrays (full) with breasts on them, overflowing rubbish bins and a feeling like the party had finished a couple of hours before.

The guy who invited me in was looking after the place for a friend who was late. The cleaner was just finishing so it was only a short wait but it was the afternoon... As it turned out the erstwhile staff memberwas very friendly and helpful. The rooms were relatively small (about 5m x 3m from memory) with 4 bunk beds in them and one window. The sheets were clean. No towels provided. Outlook onto a block of flats.

I stayed 2 nights and found some of the people (other guests) interesting and the staff helpful. There is a supermarket and a McDonalds at the end of the street and plenty of bars and small restaurants around. It's only a 15 -20 minute walk into the Duomo so it's not a bad location . There are also trams and buses close by.

Once I'd relaxed about the state of the place it was OK. There are more professionally run places but it was OK for the price in the end.
