Welcome to our bright, colourful, cosy, friendly hostel in the heart of the UNESCO protected area of Cerro Alegre. The hostel is in a typical high ceilinged town house dating from around 1900 which we have fully redesigned and refurbished.
We have spacious common areas, a large fully equipped kitchen, fast internet and wifi, and an extensive book exchange as well as a same day laundry service.
We are not a big hostel – we only have space for 16 guests. We think that this is the perfect size for you to feel at home here and for us to give you the best attention possible.
We serve one of the best breakfasts you will have on your travels including handmade wholemeal bread, fresh fruit and cheese, our wonderful homemade jams and, of course tea and real coffee.
The hostel is owned and run by the author of the Footprint guide to Chile. Janak has also contributed to the last ten editions of the South American Handbook. As an expert on independent travel in Chile, he (and the rest of our friendly staff) will be on hand to answer any queries about your travels in the country and help make your stay in Valparaiso more rewarding.
Our staff all speak English, Spanish (and in some cases French and German). We can also help arrange local trips and excursions.
We have rooms to shape all tastes and budgets, from our spacious split level dormitory to singles and doubles with shared or en-suite bathrooms and our top floor luxury apartment.
Please note that we can only receive new guests between 8am and 10.30pm.
By Bus: Turn left out of the main entrance to Valparaíso Bus Terminal. Walk 100 m to the Avenida Argentina (main road). Take the 612 bus going to the right. Ask the driver to drop you at “Plazuela San Luis” (20 mins). Enjoy panoramic views of the city from the right hand side of the bus! From The Plazuela walk 2 blocks down Templeman past the twin-spired church. We are on the right hand side (no 833).
On Foot: Walk about 35 minutes through the town centre to the Plaza Aníbal Pinto and then walk steeply uphill along Almirante Montt. Turn right on San Enrique and then left on Templeman. We are on the left hand side (no 833).
By Taxi: Ask to be taken to “Templeman entre Galos y San Enrique, Cerro Alegre”.
The price should be around $4000-5000.
By car from Santiago: The main road from Santiago becomes Av. Argentina as you enter Valparaíso. Follow this road, then turn left onto Av. Errazuriz for about 20 blocks until you get to a large paved plaza, the "Plaza Sotomayor". On the far side, turn left, then left again (going back the way you came). 6 blocks later bare sharp right at the "Plazuela Aníbal Pinto" (there is a statue of Neptune on the far side of the Plazuela). Climb up the hill along "calle Almirante Montt". At the junction, continue left, up the hill. Take the third right, calle San Enrique, then left immediately, uphill on "calle Templeman".
We are on the Left side, number 833.
