Located in the heart of Canberra's Chinatown and only about 6 minutes drive to Canberra city centre, this backpacker’s accommodation offers a range of shared air conditioned dormitory rooms (maximum of 6 in one room) and the option for travellers to take a dormitory room as either a single or a double.

With modern well equippped shared kitchen and bathroom facilities, Dickson Backpackers is clean and quiet and has warm, welcoming and helpful staff. Public transport is only a couple of minutes walk away. Dickson Backpackers allows guests over 18 years of age to take a breath, to shop a short stroll away at the local shopping precinct at Dickson where the supermarket is open until midnight or to stroll through Chinatown for a fabulous range of international restaurants, pubs and bars.

Short and longer term stays (conditions apply) as well as groups are welcome and check in is available between 10.30 am until 10.30 pm. We ask you to provide an estimated time of arrival and contact number on your booking so we can make sure your room is ready and also that you let us know if you are running late. We can't hang on to beds, so if you don't call and let us know you are going to be late, we cannot guarantee your bed.

We are not party central but are located close enough for you to get there! Alcohol is restricted to no more than 2 alcoholic beverages on site and none after midnight and of course, no ilicit drugs. Thanks.

All rooms and interior parts of the hostel are non smoking and we do expect you to clean up after yourself properly.

Smokers and those wanting to sit outside can use the back deck and barbecue.

No curfew operates (except for kids under 18 who cannot be in common areas after 10 pm) and guests are issued with security swipes allowing 24 hours access through the front door. We deadlock the back door for security reasons at 11 pm so the hostel is fully secured from entry other than for registered guests via the front entrance.

Dickson Backpackers has two dormitory types available (4 and 6 share) and the hostel sleeps a maximum of 80 people. Guests may elect to take a four berth room as a private single or twin, but charges in this instance will be based on three persons occupying the room. The hostel should be contacted directly if you want this option. We offer both short and longer term stay (conditions apply - contact us) and we provide clean bed linen on the bed on your arrival. Towels are available for hire, as is crockery and cutley for use during your stay, or you can use your own. Rooms are reverse cycle airconditioned (heating and cooling) between the hours of 8pm and 8 am. Not all dormitories have windows and preference for bed allocation in windowed dormitories is given to stays in excess of two days. All facilities are shared and whilst guests may access hot showers in bathrooms 24 hours per day, all cooking and clean up must be completed by 10 pm.

A local ACTION bus is available from the Canberra Railway station (Number 200 on weekdays, 980 weekends) that takes travellers to the city and on to Dickson where the bus stop on Northbourne Avenue for Dickson Shops is only three minutes walk from the hostel. Or change buses in the city interchange and catch the number 39 bus to Dickson shops (platform 8) we are just around the corner.

Interstate buses arrive at the Jolimont Centre in the city and travellers may then catch one of several local Action buses from Platform 8 in the city interchange where buses travel up Northbourne Avenue to Dickson about every five minutes on weekdays, 15 minutes on Saturdays and 30 minutes on Sundays.

For visitors arriving at Canberra airport, the Airliner bus is a private service taking travellers into the city centre. From there, it is just a short trip on an Action bus from platform r8 to the bus stop on Northbourne Avenue (Motor Vehicle Registry/Canberra Connect stop) closest to us.

Once off the bus, cross Northbourne Avenue and veer left . Walk through the carpark of the Motor vehicle registry, veering right until you see Cape St. Enter Cape St and walk a short block to Woolley St. We are diagonnally across the road from Suburban which is on the corner of Cape and Wooley Streets.
