Beijing (北京), the capital of China, is looking much more into the future than into the past. Nowadays, it is a city crowded with tourists from China and all over the world. But just a stone's throw away in the past, the city was hardly ever visited by any foreigners.

Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year (as it is the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar) and Spring Festival, signifies the beginning of a new year for the Chinese. Fireworks, dragon dancing, lion dancing and other performances occur in parks and streets. Houses are cleaned to drive away ill-fortune, making room for good luck in the new year. Feasts of dumplings and spring rolls are eaten and red paper-cuts decorate windows and doors!
