Belize City was founded in the mid-17th century by British lumber jacks. Before the arrival of the British the Mayan city of Holzuz had been there. The city was located on the sea, at the mouth of several rivers and creeks used by the lumber industry.

Something has gone extremely wrong at this guest house! Don't stay if you value your safety or sanity. We were informed not to pay one of the owners as he couldn't be trusted with money. The clientelle was disgusting the night we stayed and nothing was done about it. ... more
