Negril, Jamaica
You get what you pay for and this is great value for the low cost. Very basic and dated but great location across from beach w sister property Sea Winds having an awesome beachfront and restaurant. Clean for its age and great staff!
Kingston, Jamaica
It is more like a Bed & Breakfast than a Hostel - owner Courtney provided breakfast which was lovely. Could use computer and kitchen - great! I was the only one staying at the time. It is a 10 minute route taxi ride up a winding road in the hills behind Kingston. Road & driving a little scary at first and they cram you into the taxis at times (I guess you could hire them for yourself if you don't want to share)? It has a lovely view to Kingston below, surrounded by forest and fruit trees and there is a little shop across the road.
Courtney is also a tour guide, he is very informative, friendly and will take you anywhere. I think his website is Jamaica Tour Guide. His airport transfer is much cheaper than a taxi. He is soon to renovate apartment below, which will give more privacy (the hostel is his family home). Got to meet locals. Want to swim - I paid for one at the Sandhurst Hotel, 15 minute walk from route taxi stop. There is also a pool at YMC in Kingston and at other hotels.
It is rustic from the outside but fine inside. Almost a home away from home!
It was the best price for accommodation I found in the Caribbean.
I should have done & seen more in Jamaica but was trying to get over a cold - so spent a day reading 1 of Courtneys books (about a son of Bob Marley) and 2 other days sight seeing in Kingston (I only had 3 days in Jamaica).
Had a nice time, thanks Courtney.
