I would suggest somewhere in Eastern Europe, away from the tourist traps (ie - Prague, Budapest, Krakow, Sunny Beach etc.). Get a budget flight to perhaps Estonia, Romainia, Poland or Montenegro, then a bus into the nearest city, check in to a 1* hotel for just a night and explore the following day ...
