Ypres (in Dutch: Ieper) is a town that already excisted in Roman times, and was raided by the Roman in the first century B.C. During the Middle Ages it was a big city, with around 40,000 inhabitants.

In my opinion you would need a minimum of 4 days in Rome, 5 would be better. Brugges, can do with 2 days, unless you have some plans for daytrips, like Ieper/Ypres.
