Liège (Dutch: Luik) is a city in the central east of Wallonia, the french speaking part of Belgium. It's closely situated near the border with the Netherlands and has a population of about 200,000. The total metropolitan area ranks third in Belgium (after Brussels and Antwerp) with around 750,000 inhabitants.

The best I can get various train websites to give me is this: Take the intercity train to Liege-Guillemins, and then the Thalys (for which you'd need to reserve a seat - should be possible at the Maastricht central station, although I'm not 100% certain of that) from there to Paris.
