Tahiti is the largest and most populated (just under 200,000 inhabitants) island of the Windwards Islands of French Polynesia. It is located in the Society Islands archipelago in the northwestern region of the country. The capital is Papeete.

One of the nicest accomodations I had - very peaceful and the couple is very helpful and friendly. The only disadvantage might be, that it is located about 20 km out of the city centre and the last bus leaves at 5:30. i don't know much about tahiti - but am in Moorea at the moment. You could easily get the ferry/fly across cheaply for the day or over night - there are some great waterfalls here, or just rent a bike to ride around the island - it's far less populated/developed than tahiti - and i'm deffinately enjoying ...
