Petra is Jordan's most famous tourist attraction. A city hewn by the Nabateans into the rose-coloured rock hidden behind the surrounding mountains, the site became famous after reports by the Swiss explorer Johann Ludwig Burckhardt in 1812.

I cannot recommend rocky highly enough. Jane and her team are incredibly helpful, generous and knowledgable. Nothing beats a freshly brewed bedouin tea after a day's hiking at petra. Beds, bathrooms, breakfast all excellent. No complaints from us. ... more
