The listing for the home wasn't as advertised. The Ad as since changed a bit to address some of our concerns. But wanted to post my concerns for future guests. According to the owner they have two different properties one section with 3 homes and another with just one. So I can only comment on the one we stayed at which is was the 3 homes section.
The section is actually about 90 minutes walk to town, 45 minutes to the lagoon, Vaiola Hospital, the Tonga National Cultural Centre, the museum and the flea market. Not the easy access as mentioned in the ad. So a rental car is a must.
We were under the impression that this property was close to the main centre and was disappointed at the extra cost of a car as we were travelling on a budget.
The 4 bedroom home we stayed at had some issues and these are:
doors falling off the hinges, a continuous slow leak in the bathroom, internet access is provided at a cost of close too 130 dollars even though the ad at that time said it was available. (Not at an extra cost).The owner and caretaker are not the easiest to deal with. The owner is inflexible and I felt that he was just trying to milk us for all the money he could. He will also keep your security deposit and will not respond to inquires asking for it back. We left the property in better shape then we arrived and have pictures to prove it.
We will be taking the owner to disputes tribunal in NZ if he does not refund our security deposit.
I would strongly suggest everyone avoid this accommodation as there is better value for money available.
As far as Tonga goes, I loved it. The people are super friendly, and the beaches are fantastic. I would definitely holiday there again, but just not stay at the green lodge.
