How about Turkey, away from the package tourist crowd around Antalya? Cappadocia, Eastern Turkey, Black Sea coast, Istanbul, maybe up and down the West Coast with some activity tours (cycling, kayaking, sailing, etc). Not as cheap as India, but then the flight to Turkey will be cheaper than the flight ...
