The city itself has around 90,000 inhabitants, though the total metropolitan area is more than three times as big regarding the number of inhabitants.     Avignon was just a 30 minute drive from the L'Hermitage and then trying to find parking was another hour. Avignon treats visitors with disdain - parking signs appear and then suddenly disappear ...

    Train. Talk about comfort and we even packed ourselves a picnic lunch. Wall. The town/city of Avignon was surrounded by a medieval wall. Really quite impressive. Plenty of watch towers along the length of it and the wall ran full circle. We took a taxi back to the hotel and ended the night there ...
