Guayaquil

Located on the coast, Guayaquil is the largest city in Ecuador and the commercial hub. Even though it is in the same small country, it is a world apart from its mountainous neighbor, Quito. Guayaquil, with a population of about 3 million, has far more Western influence than most of the neighboring Latin cities.

The door locks are minimal, the type easily picked, and the door itself was so loose in its frame I could see the light coming in through all 4 borders. ... more

Overall, I was very satisfied. The location is just 5-8 streets away from being ideal (ie./ right in the center of the action) depending on how motivated you are to walk to the key tourist spots; if not, taxis go by every minute or two, as do the buses. The building is very secure, which made me feel good right away. ... more
