Granada, Nicaragua
I have just returned home after a 9 night stay at Hotel Terrasol, in Granada. WOW! about sums it up ! Details:
First, they arranged for a trusted driver to pick me at the Managua airport (at night) and drive me back to Granada. For a reasonable sum of money. Much appreciated.
They were ready and waiting for me when I arrived, which was lovely.
This small colonial hotel - 12 rooms, 6 on each of two upper floors - up a good staircase - is beautifully appointed, bright, clean, quiet and secure, with lovely artwork everywhere.
The rooms are smallish, but well equipped. Good furniture, very comfortable bed, pretty bathroom. Everything was spotless and in excellent working order, including TV, fan and A/C. Lovely sheets and towels. Even a hairdryer in the bathroom ! Unobtrusive - and very safe - daily room cleaning service.
The hotel is located on the outer fringe of the Historical Center of the city, which is a quieter location. A very easy walk to all parts, however. If walking is not an option, taxis are plentiful, and very cheap - 10 Cordobas - just under 50 cents US, to go anywhere in town. Just stand outside the hotel and flag one down. (They are all shared taxis, so you may do a tour of unknown parts of town before arriving where you want to go...it's all good !)
Accommodation cost includes continental breakfast. They were kind enough to modify breakfast for me, however, as I have special dietary needs. This was much appreciated.
The staff are courteous, friendly and helpful. The front desk people all speak Spanish and good English.
This small hotel is about 4 years old, constructed for this purpose by Victor and Katya, the owners. They are Nicaraguans who have both lived in the US for a number of years, but who have returned to Granada to be with family and establish their business.
I can't say enough good things about these people - Victor and Katya are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, friendly and interesting folks who are passionate about helping their guests to have "the best" stay in Granada. They are "hands on" at the front desk each morning, and can arrange tours, etc. if desired. They cheerfully answer any and all questions and volunteer information about recommended places to eat, etc.
Specifically because of Victor and Katya, I have left Granada with a much more in-depth knowledge of the area and details of how the locals live than I could have otherwise hoped for.
Hotel Terrasol is most highly recommended ! This was my first visit to Granada, but I'm sure I'll be back, and I will, most definitely, stay at Hotel Terrasol. In the meantime, I have taken some of their brochures, and will recommend them to my travel agent and other people.
