Hey sorry to but in but thought I would pop by and tell you that I have done exactly the same. I'm 30yrs old decided I needed change. So I have rented out my house, sold all my furniture, handed in my notice at work and I have booked myself a ticket to New Zealand got my whv for a year. I think you'll find that there are a lot of people our age doing this. It's either settle down or travel. That's what I have found anyway.

It's easy to rent out your property just call up your mortgage lender and request permission to lease etc if you rent your property out through an agent expect a few charges etc. but if you have someone you can trust to maintain the property while your away then renting privately would be the way to go.

Anyway message me if you would like to chat about anything always nice to talk to people in the same boat ?

Hiya,

The more the merrier!! It's grand to get as many views as possible. Yup, 30 is a tipping point for me, as my mother put it, "you're not getting any younger".

If you don't mind me asking, have you rented out through an agent? If so, how much are you paying to them?

It certainly is, I am surprised there are so many of us of a similar age doing this!

Your mother has very wise words. I think it's the best age to do it as you have done everything as you should now is time for a break/ change/ newness.

I have rented my out privately as to go through agents would of cost me around £2000 so I'm fortunate enough to have friends with trades and my mum will be looking after all the details etc.

Have you sorted out whv for oz yet? When on your travels if you pop over to NZ let me know! I am worried that I'm going to be alone for a lot of my time but that's just nerves. It's going to be best time.....

She does! I will have to tell her tomorrow, i was all teary when I spoke to her earlier.

Oh that is handy. I am going to ring some estate agents tomorrow and get some ideas.

Nope not yet, just made the decision today! I have to apply for a passport first, need to get a move on as I would like to do 3 months work to get a 2nd year visa under my belt.

I will do! Same if you pop over to Oz!. I am worried about that as well, nerve wracking but should be fabulous!

In regards to your original query about where to start, there's some helpful info here: www.travellerspoint.com/guide/Backpacking_(Australia)/.

I would also suggest checking out the Work section of the Australia guide or even the Getting set up in Australia article in the community section (bottom left).

Good luck with your planning!

NZ would definitely be on the visit list so I'd be happy to head over and say hi :)

No passport? Missy you need to get the ball rolling haha. Well if anyone fancies stopping off in Thailand on the way, please feel free to join me. :p

Hi girls.... Sorry to jump on the thread but I'm so scared and I'm in the old girls club haha! I'm 31 in October so need to be in Oz before the, I hate my job and plan on returning to uni next year but the prospect of leaving the safety net is terrrrifying! I'm possibly looking to get sabbatical leave from work for 3/6 months don't see them giving me it tho, but makes me feel better to have a job to come home to, but yes the age thing scares me, worried people won't want to hang about with me as I'm older lol x

Hey, my ticket is booked I fly on the 30th April to NZ I'll be turning 31 while I'm over there. I'm super scared but since making the choice and booking the ticket I am a happier person. It's a life time experience. Got to grab it with both hands ladies. Let's show them that the 30 club is the best club lol ? x
