So am planning on traveling to the states in late 2015/ early 16 (after finishing up my degrees) and am looking at spending as long over there as possible and travelling around a fair bit. My question is has anyone done this for a long period and roughly how much did it cost?
Also recommended way of travelling around?

Okay just been reading up about visas and now am aware of the 90 days rule. Was wandering whether you can fly to Canada for 3 months and then travel down with the US visa?

Well, the answer to that is yes, as long as you can show that you have a plan to leave the US--which is probably best proven by having either (1) a round-trip ticket from your home country to/from Canada, or (2) a return ticket to your country from a US airport or seaport location that falls within the 90-day period.

They will probably not let you in if you don't already have one of the above.

Enjoy your trip.

I helped 2 guys from Denmark buy a car a few years ago and they had a 6 month visa. I would check with your US Embassy. Can't hurt. Good luck.
