Hey beautiful people, I'm so glad I found this site! I'm a guy from Vancouver, Canada, 20, design student. I've been seriously wanting to travel for a while, ya know explore the world while you're young? I was frustrated at my friends for ditching me repeatedly! I'd tell them my travel plans, they'd get real excited, then message me some weeks later with a dumb excuse. Before reading this forum I'd never considered travelling solo before, I was worried about meeting new people. But after looking through a million posts I'm convinced there's other people out there like me!
I love adventure and photography, I'm down for anything, and I'm willing to change plans on the fly! I'm thinking of a month long trip to Thailand/Myanmar, maybe part of it solo, maybe I'll meet people in hostels. Photographers on the forum connect with me, I'd love to get to know you people!
Add me of fb if you want! /jaameswang

I find it odd that you never considered travelling solo. It's not a unique endeavour by any measure, millions have done it before you and everywhere you travel - and I mean everywhere - you'll run into scads of solo travellers.
Since you're a bit nervous Thailand is a perfect first destination. It has a very well developed backpacker infrastructure so it's an easy, non-intimidating place that's FILLED with first timers like yourself - yet it's foreign enough to offer a completely different culture than you're use to. It's a superb location to "learn" how to travel and a great place to make all the usual first timer mistakes.
Have fun and safe travels.

Welcome to Travellerspoint!
It's great to have more photographers here. Our little section of TP is over here but we also get this. If you haven't entered the latest competition yet, you definitely should.
Welcome to the site flyingburrito. Sounds like solo is the way to go for you if your friends keep bailing out Don't worry, you'll have a great time!
Welcome, James. Traveling alone is a must to really enjoy the moment.
You will never regret going solo. You're never on your own when you travel anyway, unless you want to be. I think that's the beauty of it. You will make friends everywhere you go and I would bet it will be a life-changing experience for you.
Best of luck on your travels. The whole world is waiting for you
