Travel Forums Africa and The Middle East going to Israel

I'm going travelling to Israel.

I am also planning on going to Croatia, Turkey, Greece and Egypt.

Can anyone recommend whether I should stay away from any of these places, where I should go in these countries and if I should visit any other countries in the area?

I am travelling on a budget and leaving in June.

I know there isn't any surfing in these areas but if there is anything close by that someone can recommend that would be awesome.

Israel try Bethlehem, Jerasulem and Masada. Also, cover yourself in mud and go for a dip in the Dead Sea with your newspaper. Don't swallow the water though!!!

Turkey - don't miss Istanbul. Have a few days exploring.

Greece - Athens is a must. Maybe try to get to some of the islands (Kefalonia to name but one.)

Closest surfing spots would be in France. Try the Gironde or Cote D'argent areas. Closest airport is Bordeaux.

Otherwise, give Portugal a try.

There is no reason to stay away from Croatia :o) The weather is great here, there is almost no crime and it's cheap. Also, Egypt is great, I just returned from there.

In Israel be sure to visit all of Jerusalem, including East Jerusalem and the Old City. In addition to what has already been mentioned, the Sea of Gallilee is another beautiful place to visit, and you can also go up to the Golan Heights while you're there. Hiafa and the B'hai Temple are beautiful, and try to take a dip in the Med at Ceseria where the ancient Roman aquaduct runs right along the beach. Rafting on the Jordan River is also a cool experience.

My favorite place in Greece was Meteora, the ancient monestaries built high in the mountains. You can hike up there and it's beautiful. I believe we stayed in Kalambaka to do that. Athens is also great, and Plaka is a must visit area for dinner. I didn't get to the island due to the weather but I hear they're beautiful.

In Egypt I was disappointed by Cairo to an extent, but it's worth it to go there to see the Pyramids, the open air markets, and the Egyptian Museum. I stayed at a place in Cairo called the Dahab Hotel, which was really fun and cheap. it's on the roof of a building and is supposed to feel like you're on the beach in Dahab. Very friendly, helpful staff. If you have the time, though, I would reccommend going down to Luxor (and ride a Fellucca on the Nile while you're there) and also making your way over the Sianai for snorkelling, Mt. Sianai, and lazy days on the beach in Dahab.
