A very long time ago, I worked 100 yards from the national Gallery & never even went in. Silly boy.

I would be going once or twice a week now.

National Gallery

& yes there are exhibitions on..

Veronese: Magnificence in Renaissance Venice
19 March – 15 June 2014

Strange Beauty: Masters of the German Renaissance
19 February – 11 May 2014

The Sunflowers
25 January – 27 April 2014

Favourite would have to be between the Natural History ( for the Blue Whale if it is still there) & Science museum ( or the push button museum as we called it ) Although you could spend a lifetime in the British Museum

The National Gallery is definitely a place to visit - easy to get to, situated in Trafalgar Square, free, long opening hours. If I worked in Central London, I'd spend most of my lunchtimes in there. To do the place justice, it's worth just concentrating on two or three rooms and spending an hour or so at a time in there. To see all the rooms and each picture properly could easily take four hours or more. Personally I particularly liked the Turners and Constable's Salisbury Cathedral.

The Tower of London might not be classified as a museum but maybe it should. You can get free tickets to the 700 year old, Ceremony of the Keys - the Ceremonial locking up of the Tower. Very short but a thrill.

I am not from London, but I have visited the city and I would definitely recommend visiting the National Gallery. It's a place filled with history and culture. I would also recommend the Natural History Museum and the V&A Museum. For the Natural History Museum alone you would need 1 or 2 days.
