I'm 21, female and just finished uni I need to get away! Planning to go to Australia at the end of May but I don't have anything booked would like some advice and to also find anyone who is in the same position as me so I'm not taking the big step alone. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated :)

Hi Yasmin,

Welcome to Travellerspoint.

What kind of advice are you after? Are you doing a WHV or staying for just a few months?

Hi ,
We'll I'm really very new to the whole idea and haven't really got much of a plan. I would like to work over there so would need the workers visa are they usually quiet easy to get? Advice on roughly the amount of money I would need, good companies to get in contact with before I go regarding hostels and jobs. Also quiet nervous about going alone is there any good groups that maybe all go out together that are worth looking at?

Hi Yasmin,

Yes, the WHV is very easy to get. Make sure you go directly through the immigration website (there's no need to have 'an agent' buy it for you), and it is usually approved in a few hours. Regarding the amount of money, check all of the threads that have previously discussed this – a budget of $75/day is a good starting point.

Check the accommodation on Travellerspoint for trusted reviews from within the community. Check the job sites mentioned in the guide as a starting point or try the recruiting agencies mentioned in doyledan's blog.

Have a read through the Backpacking Australia guide, there's a few organisations there that offer group packages. If you do end up going on your own you can often arrange a group with a lot of people here to meet up or travel together, and you will always meet people in hostels.

Many of the companies that offer introductory packages are selling things that you can arrange yourself for free i.e. bank account, TFN, sim card, etc. Whether you choose to travel with such a program is up to you but I just want to assure you there is no need to be scared and you're not alone

Sounds good wish I was that organised. Have you been before or done a trip alone? Are you planning on working out there? I really need to due to money and thinking I would quiet enjoy it. Something new! You look at any hostels yet?

Yea I've done lots of travelling before but this is my first trip completely alone. Especially for this long. I probably need to find work right away but I haven't booked hostels yet or even thought about a place to stay. Are you planning on staying in Sydney or travelling?

Hi Yasmin

I'm also going to sydney on my own on the 20th of May! Good thing is there's so many people in the same boat so it kinda settles the nerves a bit! I've got a working visa and 1 weeks accommodation already sorted, I'm planning maybe going up the Gold Coast but just going to go with the flow really and see what happens, do you have any ideas on where and what you want to do?

Yeah I am planning to travel about, see as much as I can whilst I'm there but really not that familiar with oz ! And not done must traveling before.
Hi Jack

Yeah I didnt realize so many people go alone. It's very reassuring to talk to people in the same boat would be good up with a group to and talk about plans.
I'm going to sort out my visa this week andlook into flights but kind of want to go with the flow to. Not book up to much so I'm not tied in. Gold coast is definitely some where I want to go . Im also in the process of looking at work to. Im not to bothered what it is though are you thinking of working? Also what is everyone's thought on how much money to bring?

For all the planning and researching I've done I really haven't sorted out a plan. I've managed to get my tickets booked and Visa sorted but haven't figured out a place to stay yet. I'm pretty sure Queensland is where I want to go and find work.
Right now I have lots of serving experience so that is probably the route that I will go for work but I'll probably wait to see how I feel when I get there. I really don't want to make too many solid plans but I'm just looking for other travellers who might want to meet up and travel together. I think it is always much funner to travel with someone else!
