Have you followed in the footsteps of any famous travellers? (e.g. Marco Polo, Edmund Hilary)

There are a few Historic tours I would like to take. I have been able to walk the path of some from the Civil War (in Virgina) But I want to do the Normandy tour to the Eagles nest.

I wouldn't mind copying some of Michael Palins journeys. Now that man is well travelled!!

No famous travellers, but I'd like to follow my grandfather's footsteps around Normandy. He wasn't travelling, but fighting - but that's the route I'd like to follow.

Just saw (most of) The Motorcycle Diaries yesterday, and that's an ambitious path and a great adventure to follow. Now, if I could just learn a little Spanish...

I'm with you there, Tway. My father was a Naval officer in the Pacific theater. He kept a bit of a diary about his travels and I have read the old ship logs that have been posted on the web (from one of the ships he was aboard). I would love to see all the places he talked out and had seen. I had pieces of jewelry made from "cats eyes" (now considered semi-precious gems) that he picked up on the beaches of Guadalcanal. I'd love to visit the beaches where they were found. He was my role model so that's who's journey I would like to follow.

My father started travelling further afield domestically when he was about 50. I remember him saying, "Hey ! This travelling is good stuff". I'd already done quite a bit of travelling myself and thought that I definitely wouldn't wait that long to come out with the same words

Unfortunatly Bill Bryson's english thing. May also be doing some of the Appalachian trail.
I enjoyed his walk in the woods. But now he just seems like a miserable old fart that likes to moan.

Michael Palin's i'd love to do. The guys a legend and my hero.

Have to say Michael Palin also. He makes travelling around the world appear effortless and tremendous fun!

It'd be a great job. I remember him mentioning in one documentary how much planning goes into his journeys, and also the work editting the film after his return to England
