Travel Forums North America 3/6 months driving around America HELP!!

Hi guys, me and my girlfriend are thinking of travelling around America next year for a few months (hopefully 6 months depending on funds).

I need advice on basically everything. First and foremost would be the route, has anybody drove around America before? Is it feasible to do both West and East coast? I'd love to visit NY, BOSTON, CALIFORNIA AND VEGAS. But I'm intrigued by the Southern states (Alabama, Georgia, Florida etc). I'm not too well informed on the Northern States, specifically, North-Eastern sates. I imagine there are some very scenic places around the North? Are there any dangers or places we should definitely avoid? I know we're not really interested in visiting the Mid-West, because there doesn't seem to be much that would interest us (although some people may have other views). If anybody could suggest places we should definitely visit throughout America (towns, landmarks, restaurants, bars) I'd be hugely appreciative.

The second thing I need advice on is what vehicle to use, I was thinking a kind of motorhome/RV (Breaking Bad-esque if you will, minus the methamphetamine). Can you rent one? Would you be as well buying one outright? (I don't think our budget would stretch that far). How much is fuel? I think this is, of course, going to be the biggest expense on our trip. What are fuel prices like in the US? I basically need guidance on all aspects of the trip haha.

Any advice on any of the above or even stuff you think will help us, would be massively appreciated. I just want to have the time of my life and explore America with my girlfriend and need HELP! haha.

Thanks guy :)

Yellowstone for the thermal stuff, Monument Valley - appears in lots of cowboy films, both rims of the very grand, Grand Canyon, anywhere in California or Montana or Arizona. The Rockies. Drive across the great plains get an idea of the vast of the place. Mesa Verde for the dwellings Too many places to think of.

Go on Google maps & use directions from say NY to LA & see what places you would pass & then stretch out either side & up & down. Check distances & drive times.

Steer clear of cities & visit small town USA. Have lots of money available to you.

Steve.

& did I mention Yellowstone?

Visit the roadtrippers website.
I'm planning on doing the same thing but on a much smaller scale. It gives you an estimate on the hours spent driving and dollars spent on fuel. Fantastic!

Good Luck with your planning.
