Thanks!

Your question is very vague and covers an avalanche of possible information. SE Asia is one of the most popular backpacking destinations on the planet. It is covered in great detail by a multitude of guide books. You should do some reading/research and come back with more specific questions.

Have fun.

Cheers,
Terry

Terry is right, however....................... Bangkok, Sukothai, Chiang Mai, Pai, into Laos, Luang Prabang, Vang Vieng, Vientiene, Four Thousand Islands, over to Phnom Penh inCambodia, upto Siem Reap and Ankor Wat, cheap AirAsia flight to South Thailand, visit some islands on the way back to Bangkok.

This is a very basic snapshot of some (major) destinations so as Terry says, grab a guidebook, do some research, im sure you'll have a blast. :)

Two months usually means a tourist visa you pay for ahead of time. Unless you have a plane ticket out of Thailand ahead of time. Visa requirements depend on the country passport you will enter with.

Visa information link for Thailand.
http://thaiembassyuk.org.uk/?q=node/55
http://www.thaiembassy.ca/en/visiting-thailand/visas/types-visas-periods-stay-fees/tourist-visa

From above link:
"Foreigners entering Thailand by any means under the Tourist Visa Exemption category are required at the port of entry to have proof of onward travel (confirmed air, train, bus or boat tickets) to leave Thailand within 30 days of the arrival date (otherwise a tourist visa must be obtained)."

When you ask for hotel, guest house or hostel recommendations for each city include a price range you want to pay per night. This area of the world may be bigger than you think. For instance, Thailand alone is larger than the UK. Look at a map of this area. You can get to Cambodia, Malaysia and Laos even overland. But for each country you visit you have to research visa requirements too! Sometimes you pay and sometimes you don't have to. A simple Google search will give you the visa requirements for each country you intend to visit. Just like Thailand visa requirements depends on what country passport you enter with.

Like previously stated buy or borrow a guidebook. From Thailand you have bus service to many places. You also have train service too. Trains even go all the way to Singapore! (On a tight budget Singapore can be expensive!)

Budget - you should have a budget worked out ahead of time. Know how much money you have to spend each day after paying for round trip plane tickets to Bangkok. Then you decide how much money to apply to your accommodation. If you find that you will be staying in crappy places all the time and eating stuff you don't like to survive - stay for less time and have more money per day to spend.

In Thailand the price for hostels and guest houses and small private hotels are not much different in cost. After Bangkok not that many hostels available compared to cheap guest houses. If you are young, maybe under 21, Khao San Road might be a place to head for in Bangkok. Many young tourists choose that area to stay in. Although Sukhumvit Nana area is also not that expensive and you can also use city rail service.

Bangkok has two airports. Most flights from Europe and North America arrive at Suvarnabhumi. During day hours up to around midnight you have cheap rail service too. In Bangkok the meter taxis are not too expensive compared to Europe and America. Providing you pay the meter fare and do not pay a flat rate. Organized taxi service available from each airport. For Thailand you can change some money at the airport 24 hours a day. The rate you get in Thailand for most Western currencies will be better there than other countries. Don't leave Cambodia, Laos or Vietnam with their currencies. No one wants to change it in other countries. Different countries different currencies to research. If you intend to use debit or credit cards you should notify your banks ahead of time where you will be and for how long. Don't depend only on a single credit or debit card for your spending money. That card could become lost, stolen or damaged and you won't have money to pay for anything.

Do a Google search for scams. There are many old posts on hotels, scams to avoid, how to use taxis, currency exchange and other helpful information you can access with a forum search.

Try to be specific in your questions and you will get more help. July - September expect some rain at times. Hotels will be cheaper than December - January time frame.

Good luck.

Hi rachel

Depends on what you like. Consider stopping by philippines as it has variety of interesting sites: Sagada, Mountain Province (Philippines) for beautiful caves and hiking - view is gorgeous! Banaue rice terraces - a unesco world heritage. El Nido Palawan - very nice white beach and it is where the latest bourne movie was filmed. Siargao Island for surfing.

Vietnam, thailand and cambodia are also interesting places to visit :)
