Thank you ngan
Mike, thanks for the information about the visa, I couldn't believe at first that it's such a big difference between getting the visa in Bangkok/PP.
Concerning the boat journey: at the moment this is playing with options. I'm not going to book anything before arriving in PP. But you can never be on the safe side, can you? I have read so much about buscompany rip-offs that this doesn't seem to me the better option either, at least at the moment. But thanks anyway for making me a bit more cautious about this issue.
I never book anything until I am there. July is low season in SEA so you will have no problem finding a room in your price range. Same with transport. Once in PP, I suggest you head over to the Capitol GH & Restaurant. OK food at a cheap price. Travel shop as well. City tour, Killing Fields, temples, any sightseeing that you might want to do is offered daily. Ask when the bus from HCMC arrives and then chat with the kids about their experience. Many companies go daily between PP & HCMC. I use the Capitol GH bus as they are affiliated with Sinh Café in VN. They drop you off right at Sinh Café on De Tham St. De Tham St. is the Khao San Rd. area in HCMC. I stay on mini hotel alley just around the corner from De Tham. Heaps of small hotels & restaurants to choose from. Good luck.
Best bus from SR to PP is Giant Ibis.
Killing Fields, S21 Genocide Museum, Russian Market are easy to without booking a tour. Just employ a Turk Turk driver for the day @ about US$15 for the day plus a couple of $ tip.
