Oooh..i thought u would be here in July...That's when the 117th IOC Session will convene in Singapore from 6 to 9 July 2005. TPers planning to come here might want to take note of this.
Some pretty good recommendations there. I second Wocca's suggestion of Changi Chapel and Museum. The chapel was built in honour of those Changi Prison POWs ( during the Japanese Occupation) and the museum now houses alot of personal, often poignant drawings, letters by those imprisoned there. I would suggest going Changi Village too. A nearby sleepy small town with a bohemian vibe. Over there u can get a boat to Pulau Ubin - a small island just about the only place in Singapore that resembles the countryside. Do start the day early if u want to cover the 3places.
As for food...just go to Geylang or Katong. Dont ask. Just GO. By the way, Geylang is a red-light district. Take your pictures discreetly there. It can get pretty rowdy at night.
If u are on a budget or to look for fellow travellers, try getting a hostel in Little India . The place is increasingly becoming like a backpacker central.
Hope this helps.
I stayed one time in Geylang, not realizing that it was a red-light area. There is delicious food for sale on the sidewalk cafes in Geylang. East to get there by train
Easy to get there by train
Thanks for everyones great advice!!!
i went to singapore when i was very young but of what I can remember I'd try:
the zoo (i was astonished to see the polar bears and a wolf!)
the bird park (may have just been so enjoyable because i was young)
sentosa island and the cable car ride
maybe try a singapore sling, i've heard they're quite nice.
have a great time
