I'm traveling from Guadalajara to Taxco and want to go by first class bus. Anybody out there do this before, and can advise me what lines to use?

Okay, this may seem a bit complicated, but you have to go via Mexico City and change bus stations since there are no direct buses from Guadalajara.

Step 1: Go to the reserbus site (www.reserbus.com) and book a one-way (Viaje Sencillo) ticket from Guadalajara, JAL to Ciudad de Mexico and make sure your ticket takes you to the Terminal Centro del Norte and not the Terminal Centro Poniente. This ticket should cost you about 673 Mexican pesos. Make sure you take a bus that gets you into Mexico City by at least noon, since you have to go about 20 kilometers on the metro and you have to get on a 1 PM bus to your next stop (Cuernavaca). Make sure you book from the terminal you want to leave from (either Nueva or Zapopan). This means you may have to leave at 3 in the morning, or 6 AM if you are willing to risk that you can go 20 kilometers on the subway in less than 30 minutes.

Step 2: Go to the ticketbus site (www.ticketbus.com) and choose "Viaje Sencillo" (one-way) and book a ticket from Mexico DF Taxquena to Cuernavaca, Mor. at 13:00 (1:00 PM). This will cost you about 110 Mexican pesos.

Step 3: Go to the ticketbus site again and book your one-way ticket from Cuernavaca, Mor to Taxco, Gur. at 3 PM. This will cost you 80 pesos.

When you travel to Mexico City, you will have to travel from the Terminal Centro del Norte to Terminal Tasquena (note the spelling difference, which is strange--it is spelled both ways). Fortunately there are metro stations at both locations. Get on the metro at the "Autobuses del Norte" station (metro line 5) and go south one station to La Raza, at La Raza get on the metro line 3 and go 4 stations to Hildalgo, at Hildalgo get on metro line 2 south and go to the end of the line (Tasquena). The bus station is less than one block away (to the east). The fare for the metro is 5 Mexican pesos one-way.

The total 868 Mexican peso fee works out to about $68 in US currency.

Enjoy your trip.

P.S. Forgot to mention, the reason that you have to leave Guadalajara so early is that there is only one bus a day from Cuernavaca to Taxco (the one at 3 PM)--and even though there are 4 buses a day from Mexico City to Cuernavaca, there is only one (the one at 1 PM) that gets to Cuernavaca in time for you to take the bus that leaves there at 3 PM.

Obviously, if you are willing to spend a night in either Mexico City or Cuernavaca, then you don't have to leave Guadalajara so early in the morning.

Hi Gary,

Thanks for the detailed info! I hope to spend a few days in Taxco then go from there to Puebla for a few more then need to return to Mexico DF to fly home. I haven't checked how to go from Taxco to Puebla and hope it doesn't involve going back to DF. Any suggestions on this would be much appreciated!

Have a good week, thanks again!

James
