I'm heading to Melbourne end of September and feel exactly the same, nervous but excited!
I was worried about money too as the woman at STA Travel insisted that they check everyone's finances when you arrive and don't accept overdrafts/credit cards so if you don't have the $6000 then they deport you? I think I'm gonna be slightly under and just wondered what others knew about this?
I know that that amount is on the WHV criteria if you don't have a return flight but is it that strict if you're only slightly under?
Probably worrying about nothing but she made me quite concerned as she was so adamant.
Thanks for any help,
Omg I didn't know about this. I'm not going to have $6000!!!!! No way. Maybe €4500-5000 and a one way flight!!
Please if someone knows????
Abby, I would start a new thread with this topic, you might get more of a response.
Thanks for your reply Emily, I'm in the same boat as you!
Yeah that sounds like a better idea actually. I'll start one now x
Ignore her. She would also like you to book through her company instead of organise your visa, bank account and TFN directly for free.
The general consensus on the forum is no one has ever reported being asked about this on arrival but do try and have as much as possible because many travellers blow through all their money in a couple of months. Start searching for work as soon as possible and you'll be fine.
Thanks for your reply!
Might be a couple of hundred under but will definitely have most of it so that is good news.
Ah thank god! Started panicking then haha. I'm going to get a job quickly anyway so should be ok. Ahh scared me lol x
Yeah, don't worry and a couple of hundred is nothing—a few thousand under would be a different story!
It's £3000 minimum to have in bank account before you enter their country (:
I have that but would need a few hundred more as I don't have a return ticket but thanks
