After traveling around Europe for a month a few years ago, and a bunch of Canada/US over the past couple of years, I'm planning something a bit further out.
I've booked a flight to Bangkok (via NYC, Milan, Prague, Paris) and will be arriving on Halloween! Going to stay in the area for about a week or so and then travel around the rest of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam before making my way to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to take a flight to Australia around mid-December (booking this soon with the sales on AirAsia).
I plan to stay in Sydney for Christmas/NYE and then want to take some road trips and travel around some more of Australia and NZ.
My friend may come with me to SE Asia depending on work, but regardless, I'm hoping to connect with some others who are planning a similar trip around that time. Ideally those around my age who will have flexible itineraries or are still in the planning stages.
I'll be 25 and am going to be doing a little bit of everything from beaches and party cities to trekking, diving, surfing (learning), etc...really planning to experience as much as I can. I don't have any time set for a return flight yet, so I may be in Australia later than (my currently expected return date of) the end of Jan.2015. Part of me is even considering getting a work visa and try my luck at getting a job (worst case scenario is I just live on the hostel and beach diet - oh no! lol).

Hi David :-)
I will also be travelling in asia but will be there for only two month Aug-Sep and then will be heading to Australia on a WHV. This will be my first time travelling so am a little nervous as no idea what to expect but also very excited for the same reason.
I have been to australia twice already on holiday and fell in love with it. This time i am hoping to do similar to you meet like minded people and see as much as i can of aus as possible in the year i will have there before i head to New zealand.
I have no plans for when i get to aus as i am hoping this will leave me open to meeting people and doing stuff i wouldnt usually decide to do myslef :-) The only plans i do have is to hopefully learn to scuba dive and surf somewhere along the way and maybe get a camper van to travel around for a bit.
have been looking into couch surfing and maybe house sitting to save money and to get to see the real australia rather than just the tourist aus.
I'm My and I'm from Viet Nam. Noted that you would like to visit SE Asia, hope to welcome you. Btw, I work in tourism sector so if you would like to have a specific itinerary, don't hesitate to contact me. we can introduce the useful information for travellers in Viet Nam and support you creative tours around Viet Nam also.
I have a very similiar travel plan to you. I am hoping to start in Asia later this year, covering Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam, hopefully starting in october (would this be too late for you?) and then move on the Australia to travel the coast and then hope to go on to New Zealand. Would be very interested in talking more about this as I hope to stay out at least a year.
