We got ourselves some travel towels too! We have put them through the wash once, as recommended on the packaging, and I've had the same thoughts as you samsara. After the one wash they've softened up a lot but appear to be pilling a bit. I guess we'll see what happens to them when we all start using them, right?

Hi Samsara

Where abouts did you get that towel, they sound good.

Anne, yeah it just looks like a big piece of felt. As Sofia said, it is recommended on the packaging to wash them once before use and it says that with each successive wash the texture softens to resemble a real towel.

Wont be using for months but I just wanted to see what people thought of them.

Thanks guys!
Ev;)

Oh hi Happy,

I bought it in a shop called River Deep Mountain High here in Ireland but I guess you can them in any decent outdoor/camping store.

I'm sure you could probably get them on the net as well.

They are quite absolutely atrocious - whenever a hostel gives free towels, I suddenly take twice as many showers - and one of the best parts of staying in one place for a few months right now is that I got to buy myself a real towel, just for here - but they do work, and work very well, and hardly take up any space at all, which is in the end the most essential thing, as I already barely know how I manage to cram everything back into my backpack all the time. :)

I would check out shops that sell swimwear. I saw some in my local swimwear shop.

you can get them in any decent outdoors/ camping shop. They're great in that they pack up really small , but they don't really dry you very well - a least mine doesn't!

Yes they do feel like a big piece of felt!! I am using mine religously every day as the places i am staying are not exactly nic ehotels/hostels!
After washing mine has remained virtually like new, the benefits are so huge over the downsides.
They soak up water so fast but do not get drenched, they dry about 5 times faster and they pack away to nothing, which in my backpacks case is such a good thing.
I´d always advise getting one!!
