Hi. I am planning a trip some time in September or October. The plan is to fly into San Diego, visit a nice beach the following day, travel by car from San Diego to the Grand Canyon. I am looking for about a day of sight seeing during the drive from SD to GC. What are some nice scenic areas to visit and possibly even stay for the evening then continue on to GC?

Thanks, Amanda

You should go to Palm Springs or Palm Desert if it's not too hot. Temperatures will get into the 110s in the summer, but should only be around 90 in October--which is actually very comfortable in the Palm Springs area.

Another option is to go to the Parker, Arizona area (along the Colorado River) over labor day--but book early either in Parker or in Laughlin, Nevada, since it gets crowded there with young people(Parker) having their back-to-school break just before heading back to college, or older people (Laughlin) on their labor day vacations.

Oh, another choice is also to go to Sedona before going to the Grand Canyon. Be aware that this is not on the way to Las Vegas, but is right on the way to Flagstaff and then on to the Grand Canyon.
