There is enough food to feed everyone, but with the spread of greed across the globe it is not possible.

WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 1.8 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE GLOBAL HECTARES PER PERSON.

If everyone had my life style we would need 3.5 planet earths to sustain us.

Find out your global footprint... http://www.earthday.net/footprint/index.asp

The problem is no body wants to minimize their impact on the earth. They see poverty and think we should raise them up to "our" level (as in western living)... how about lowering our impact level

4.7 hectares for me - 2.6 planet

Not lowering our standards of live - but more luxury without demaging the environment. Food, decent shelter and clothing for every human.

I personally love how George Carlin put it..."Save the Earth? We don't have to save the earth, the earth is going to shake us off like a bad cold, all we are doing is killing ourselves."
Which is true, the earth is billions of years old, we have only been here but a moment in the big scheme of things. A million years from now, the earth will (probably) still be here, but will we?

If you want a good perspective on just how insignificant we are to the earth, take a look at Bill Bryson's A Short History of Nearly Everything. We're not much more than a fortunate accident who's time is just about up as a species. I think his example is:

"If you divide the entire history of earth up to fit into a 24-hour day, humans will come into being at one minute before midnight."

Its more of a political issue then anything. These third world countries are paying so much of their countries debt that they cant climb out from the poverty trap. they also need financial aid too,you might not change the country from a small donation but you could save a life or help to,thats enough for me to give some money every month. check out makepovertyhistory.com its such a worthwhile campaign, they want support not money.
