I have 60 days to spend (mostly hiking) in the Alps & Dolomites. Also a little bit in Croatia. The most important factor is beauty of the scenery. A distant second is weather followed by crowds. So far I'm thinking July 1 through Aug 29. I could tweak it a week or 2 or 3 or a month.
What would be the absolute best 60 days you would recommend??? What direction: Dolomites first then the Alps or visa versa ?
Any advice would be helpful.
This idea sounds amazing. You will certainly not be disappointed with the beauty of the scenery whether you decide to go/spend more time in Southeastern France, Switzerland, Austria, Northern Italy or Slovenia. Luckly, mountain destinations are usually places where crowds are not expected but it is true that this kind of vacation is becoming more and more wanted by people. July and August are definitely the months with higher prices and more travellers. The weather during the summer has been very uncertain these last years (in Switzerland where i live) and it seems to be better in the months of August and September than in June or July, but as always it is a matter of luck. Concerning the direction, i would start in the Alps and stop at the Dolomites on the way to Croatia!
