I was in Bhutan back in 1998. We had to make the arrangements ahead of time. We flew into Bhutan from Kathmandu and then flew from Bhutan to Calcutta. Its a fairly expensive country (the government limits the number of foriegn visiters by keeping the cost per day very high, they feel that way the country will not be overrun with tourists like some other nearby countries). Bhutan has their own airline (Druk Air).

Maybe someone else has been there recently (and have more up to date info on how to get there), but I'm pretty sure you still need to pay some money before arriving in Bhutan. Just look in a travel magazine or search theweb for companies that deal with Bhutan. If you have the money its an AMAZING destination and well worth it. Hope this helps a little.

what travel100 said is exactly as what i read from the travel column in newspaper last year DEC 2004. They limit the passengers there by flights and you have pre-book first before going there. They have a new king (i forgot his name) who the citizens in Bhutan described him "A young and Handsome Emperor". There is a very renowned place up the hill which the king is busy restoring the temple upon the steepy valleys but it's magnificent! (As what i've seen on newspaper) This site will be open after their finish the restoration in 2007/8 (forgot already!Sorry). This new king allows the internet connectivity and now some said Bhutan will going to have TV broadcast (they banned this for many many years)but this is still in arguments.

So do i. I wish can travel this route: Tibet - Mongolia - Nepal - Bhutan. A chinese traveller from SiChuan, a Mongolia and Nepal's cultural activist told
me it's TRULY AMAZING!

Hi suwadina

Can i check if it is true that we can only take flights in?

how much do we have to pay per day when we are there?

or do we only need to pay a one-time fee upon arrival?

thanks for answering my queries.

Here is some interesting information on Bhutan.
http://www.drukair.com.bt/vst_info.htm
It lists the requirements for entry and hopefully answers your questions.

hi all,

As i mentioned earlier, tourists have to pay $240 per day which is inclusive of food, hotel, car, guide charges. In off season they are charged $165 per day. If tourists come in a group of 3 or more , they pay just $200 per day in season.

I hope all your questions are answered, otherwise you can sedn me a message.
